Repairs in Eldorado

Keeping Eldorado's sunspaces, sills and sliders in working shape

Solar homes put their glass to work harder than most. Sunspace panes sit in full sun all year, warm humid air from plants meets cold glass on winter nights, and the original sliders have breathed in decades of dust. The result is a particular set of repairs.

Fixing site-built glass

Many Eldorado sunspaces and south walls have glass set directly into wood framing rather than in factory windows. When a pane fogs or cracks, we can usually order a new insulated unit to the exact size and reset it with fresh glazing tape and stops, leaving the rest of the wall alone.

Stopping sill damage before it spreads

Water from condensation will eventually rot the wood it lands on. Along with repairing the damage, we look at why it's happening: better glass, a sloped sill, or more air movement in the sunspace can all reduce how much water collects.

Eldorado repair questions

Water pools on our sunspace sills every winter morning. What can be done?

That's condensation from warm, moist air meeting cold glass. Better-insulated glass keeps the inner pane warmer, and improving air circulation and sill drainage reduces the water that collects. We'll look at all three.

Hail cracked a sloped pane in our greenhouse. Can it be replaced with something tougher?

Yes. Replacement units can use tempered or laminated glass, which handles impact better and is often recommended for sloped glazing anyway. We'll suggest the right option for the location.

Is it worth repairing original sliders from the 1970s or '80s?

If the frame is straight and parts are available, a repair can buy years of service. If the frame is bent or parts are long discontinued, replacement is usually better value, and we'll tell you which applies.
