Eldorado replacement windows

Replacing the one-of-a-kind windows in Eldorado's solar homes

Plenty of Eldorado houses were designed or built by their first owners, and it shows in the windows: panes set directly into wood frames on site, clerestories near the ceiling, sizes no catalog ever listed. Replacing them takes measuring and planning rather than picking from a chart.

What we often find in Eldorado houses

Custom sizes

Openings framed to fit a design, not a standard. We measure each one and order units built to match.

Site-built fixed glass

Panes glazed straight into wood framing. These can get new insulated glass, or be replaced with factory-made fixed units.

Big south walls

Rows of south glass that heat the house in winter. Glass choice here affects the whole home's comfort.

High clerestories

Windows up near the roofline that bring in light and heat but are awkward to reach without the right equipment.

Working up high and on open land

Clerestory and upper-wall windows mean ladders, scaffolding or both, and we plan for that during the first visit rather than on install day. On a windy afternoon out on the grassland, large panes are handled only when conditions allow, so a breezy morning may become an afternoon start.

Long gravel and dirt drives are normal here, and we plan deliveries so units arrive clean and undamaged.

Covenants first. Exterior changes in Eldorado may need sign-off under your community covenants and their architectural guidelines. We'll give you product specs and colors for any submittal and hold the order until it's approved.
  • Fiberglass and clad frames that stay stable in strong sun
  • Glass chosen side by side, south to north
  • Frames sealed tight against steady wind

Why Eldorado homeowners call a Santa Fe crew

The drive down US 285 from our Pacheco Street base is a short one, so measuring, sample visits and follow-ups don't cost you extra. More importantly, we take the passive solar design of these homes seriously and won't swap out south glass without talking about what it does for the house.

Eldorado window questions

Our windows were built into the framing on site. Can they be replaced?

Yes. Site-glazed openings can take new factory-made fixed windows sized to the opening, or, where the wood framing is sound, new insulated glass set into the existing frames. We'll compare both for cost and appearance.

How do you reach clerestory windows near the ceiling?

We plan access during the first visit, using tall ladders, scaffolding or a lift depending on the height and the ground below. That plan and its cost are spelled out in the quote.

Do all the windows in an Eldorado house need the same glass?

Usually not. South-facing glass in a solar home typically gets a different coating than west or north windows. We recommend glass wall by wall.
